Abstract

The purpos e of this study was to develop a role conflict in Korea through an
examination of aspects of the instrument¡¯s internal consistency and construct validity .
The Role Conflict and Ambiguity Scale developed by House, Schuler , Levanoni(1983) was
translat ed into Korean language. From this process , a role conflict and ambiguity scale
was made by consulting with two profes sors majored in educational evaluation and one
professor who is an authority on educational administr ation. Also the confidence and clarity of this role conflict scale was strengthened by consulting one clinical psychologist .
With this scale being tested, the results are summarized as follows .
1. Reliability
Internal consistency reliability was tested by Cronbach alpha, corrected item total
correlation and correlation matrix .
The Cronbach alpha level was .95 and the items were .42 above in the corrected item
total correlation. There was no negative correlation in the correlation matrix .
2 . Construct validity
In the construct validity , four factors have an eigen value 1.0 over .
Factor 1 represent ed role ambiguity , composed 12 items with .92 reliability level.
Factor 2 represent ed working environment , composed 11 it ems with .90 reliability level.
Factor 3 represented deficiency of ability and skill, composed 10 items with .90 reliability level.
Factor 4 represent ed uncertainty of method, composed 4 items with .82 reliability level.
In this study ,The Korean ver sion of role conflict and ambiguity scale was found valid
and reliable. Also these results contribute to measuring the level of role conflict and to the
management of the organizational role conflict
